Sporting Predictions 13/04/2010

Bolton Vs Chelsea earlier in the season
Another huge week of Premier League football and another round of predictions! Let’s see if I do any better than the weekend!
**Results Update**
Tuesday
| Fixture | Prediction | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Chelsea v Bolton | 2-1 | 1-0 |
This is a massive game against Bolton. They will be fresh from their weekend off and be really up for a game in which they have no real pressure on them. For Chelsea it’s getting to “Squeeky bum time” and I think they might make hard work of Bolton. Having said that I think if Chelsea score early it could be 3 or 4. The longer it stays 0-0 for the more nervous the players and fans will be. I’m thinking of the Chelsea – Wigan game a couple of seasons ago where we had to win and Heskey scored a last minute equalizer.
As predicted the game was nervy and tight but Chelsea just got the 1-0 win. Not overly impressed by the press after the game regarding the penalties. If you were an alien you would think John Terry raped someone’s nan not handballed in the box! Anyway I got the result right just not the score. Not too bad.
Wednesday
| Fixture | Prediction | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Aston Villa v Everton | 1-1 | 2-2 |
| Tottenham v Arsenal | 0-2 | 2-1 |
| Wigan v Portsmouth | 2-0 | 0-0 |
Villa almost have nothing to play for now. If Pompey are rejected the chance to play in the Europa League next season then they will be looking to consolidate 7th but Everton will be breathing down their necks. Everton will be fired up for this game and I think it’ll be a good one. I can only see a draw. Spurs played an energy-sapping, heartbreaking cup semi on Sunday for 120 minutes. To add insult to injury Wilson Palacios is suspended, a player vital against Arsenal. I can’t see anything other than an Arsenal win. Portsmouth players are now playing for places in the side for the final as well as for a transfer to a top club for next season. However, they also played 120 minutes on Sunday and I have no doubts that they celebrated a bit! Why not. The players have been through a lot and contributed a lot to the club. I think they might be brought back down to earth at Wigan, a result that’ll go a long way to preserving Wigan’s Premier League status for another season.
Not brilliant in predictions terms but great for a Chelsea fan! Spurs beat Arsenal so I was way off there. The Villa – Everton game was a draw but I got the score wrong whilst a massively depleted Pompey side managed to hold Wigan at the DW Stadium, so I was wrong again!
