Pessimist or Betting Man?

Chelsea 1-0 Bolton

Chelsea 1-0 Bolton

I was very nervous last night waiting for the Chelsea game to finish. Thankfully it finished 1-0. If you read any form of media you’d think Chelsea had already won the title. Is it just me that sees it differently?

Chelsea did not play well last night and had to scrap a little. Bolton didn’t deserve to draw or win or anything but by all accounts we were pretty lucky not to have a penalty given against us on 2 occasions. Reading some sections of the media today reminds me of old times – Chelsea are cheaters, Lucky Chelsea, Not fair bla bla bla. At least then we were hated because of Mourinho, now we’re just hated! Although it’s nice, we didn’t ask for the referees to be shit!

There were a few of points that can be drawn from last night:

  1. Zhirkov is awesome going forward. We’re very strong on the left with him, Ashley Cole and Malouda.
  2. Chelsea have much better balance and fluidity in the team with a winger on the left and right with a single front man. Using Anelka out wide doesn’t, never has and never will work.
  3. Chelsea were much better when Malouda and Joe Cole came on. The run-in could save Joe Cole’s Chelsea and England career.
  4. The last 4 league games are going to be  very nervy!

Truth is, we have had a massive slice of luck in the last 3 games (although United had a couple of slices in that game too!) but have we deserved to win those 3 games? Yes. But anyway, that isn’t what i’m really wanting to talk about. I see this period in time as a window of good betting. In the eyes of the media and the bookies Chelsea have won the league but that’s absolutely mental! Chelsea could easily drop points at Spurs and Liverpool and the Stoke game will be very tough, especially when we’re nervy. If Arsenal win tonight I make them favourites if Chelsea drop points at Spurs. If Arsenal win tonight and United win against City at the weekend their run-ins are significantly easier than Chelsea’s. Right now United are best priced at 17-2 to win the title and Arsenal 15-2. They are very good odds. I would suggest sticking some money on before the Arsenal game tonight. If Arsenal lose or draw I can’t see them winning it and if they win their odds will be slashed, the same applies for United at the weekend.

Now begs the question – do you trust me? I’m not too sure myself if i’m writing this as a pessimist or a betting man.
